The ME behind ME Method
Here we are! Welcome to my first blog post–I’m so happy you’re here.
As you might already know, my name is Emmy. The name ME Method arose from tinkering around with some double meanings. It’s first a nod to my name (M-E), and it’s also much of what I believe self-care to be—oftentimes deep introspection centered around the self AKA “me.” My vision for ME Method has always been a prioritization towards self-love perhaps in a variety of ways so that we might show up for ourselves and others in beautiful form.

So besides my name, I’ll start with some other (hopefully not too boring) basics. I’m born and raised in Wisconsin and I’ll never acclimate to the cold of our winters. I met my husband at the restaurant I served at in college. That’s a story for another time, and I think it’s one of my best/favorite stories ever. We have a son—he’s a 10 year-old Rottweiler-Mastiff named Bruno. In school, I double majored in Psychology and Communication. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from UW-Milwaukee in three years and remember feeling the weight of the world deciding which direction to take career-wise. What I did know with all my soul is that I wanted to help others in some capacity.
That led me to begin my career in the mental health field. I worked as a counselor with adolescents in a residential OCD and anxiety unit for a little over two years. As my knowledge-base and experience grew, so did my interests. I witnessed the corresponding connection between mental illness severity and physical movement/nutrition quality in the patients we treated and I wanted to dig deeper. The less movement we engage in, the more we seem to struggle mentally and emotionally. The more we seem to struggle mentally and emotionally, the less movement we seem to want to engage in. We can’t always separate the two. It’s no secret that making sense of this dualistic mind-body connection is crucial to understanding the individual. It’s also no secret that the quality of the foods we consume have a major impact on our overall health.
Around this time, I went vegan after learning more about the impact our diet. I was quite literally hungry for knowledge and I ate up every opportunity to learn about what we call food. This brought me to learn more about how to cook and prepare healthy and delicious fuel. My husband happens to be the most amazing chef I know, and has always been a wonderful teacher as well as inspiration. As I learned more about how to prepare nutritionally complete plant-based meals for myself and others, my perspective broadened as I discovered that a vegan lifestyle is far more about abundance than it is about restriction.
I continued to uncover what health meant to me by studying to become a Certified Personal Trainer, and began working as a boxing instructor, trainer, and group fitness instructor. My passion continues to lie in bridging the gap between physical and mental health. Since striving for a goal of any kind is such a mental game, I find purpose in helping my clients apply behavior change to assist them in enriching their lives. Nutrition is a key aspect of this as well, and being able to understand how to properly nourish your body so you may thrive, is an absolute privilege.
Covid-19 undoubtedly changed the trajectory of my life and career. I never saw myself as an entrepreneur, and truthfully didn’t embrace it for the longest time because (being vulnerable here) quite honestly I’ve struggled immensely with my own mental health along the way. Thanks to my clients who believed in me, I’m here writing this today. The people who have supported me every step of the way are those I owe a multitude of gratitude for.
Now here we are in 2024, I’ve built my career as a plant-based private chef, in-home personal trainer, and nutritionist. I’m enjoying growing and learning along this journey and wouldn’t have it any other way. Stay tuned for deeper dives into the topics I brushed on here like mental health, veganism, mind-body connection, physical fitness, habit change, etc!
Again, I’m so happy to have you here.
Light & love,
Emmy
